The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts

The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra
The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is one of the best Things to Do in Alabama and it is a group based gathering committed to giving traditional music projects of the most noteworthy quality with the support of nearby beginner artists. The MSO was founded in 1946-47. Chester J. Petranek spearheaded the effort to found the orchestra by persuading Montgomery County Junior College (now Montgomery College) and the Department of Adult Education of the Montgomery County Public Schools to take on the project. The goal was to promote cultural development in the county by giving its citizens good music without cost. John Riggleman briefly served as the first music director.

MCMO is governed by an all-volunteer board. The organization receives no city, state or federal funding for operating or concert expenses. The Board of MCMO is dedicated to extending the joy of chamber music to a growing and diverse audience.
